How the mocha brown reads, in daylight and indoors

Mocha Aura is a deep coffee brown with a warm red undertone rather than a grey one, which is what stops it looking muddy. In daylight the red in it is visible and it reads as a rich chocolate. Under indoor light it deepens and sits very close to black from across a room, so it does the job of a black abaya without the severity of one. It is the most useful of the five if you are only buying one, because brown is the neutral almost every accessory already agrees with. Gold jewellery is made for it. Tan, camel and cream bags all work, and so do black ones. Cream, camel, black and deep olive hijabs all sit with it; a cool blue-grey does not. Practically, it is the shade we point people at for the monsoon, since a mid-brown hides splash marks and damp far better than ivory or rose. It reads correctly at a daytime dawat, at a nikkah, and on an ordinary Tuesday, which is not true of maroon.

Choosing a hijab tone to sit with it? Matching a hijab to your abaya colour works through every shade we make.

Keeping the mocha brown looking new

Mocha is the most forgiving shade of the five in the wash. A gentle cold cycle inside out is enough, and it does not need separating from the other dark shades.

Nida and crepe compared covers how each fabric washes and drapes, and the full washing guide goes fabric by fabric.

Mocha Brown Abaya: your questions answered

Does the mocha brown abaya fade or need special washing?

No. Mocha Aura is the most forgiving shade of the five: a gentle cold cycle inside out keeps the coffee brown exactly as it arrived, and it does not even need separating from the other dark shades. That colour stability is part of why it works as an everyday piece.

What hijab and jewellery suit a brown abaya?

Cream, camel, black and deep olive hijabs all sit with Mocha Aura; a cool blue-grey does not. Gold jewellery is made for it, and tan, camel, cream and black bags all agree with it, which is why it is the most useful of the five if you are buying only one. A matching mocha hijab is included.

Does mocha brown look like black indoors?

Close to it. Mocha Aura is a deep coffee brown with a warm red undertone rather than a grey one, so it never looks muddy. In daylight the red shows and it reads as rich chocolate; under indoor light it deepens and sits very close to black from across a room, doing the job of a black abaya without the severity.

When can I wear a mocha brown abaya?

Mocha Aura reads correctly at a daytime dawat, at a nikkah and on an ordinary Tuesday, which is not true of a wedding shade like maroon. It is also the shade we point people at for the monsoon, since a mid-brown hides splash marks and damp far better than ivory or rose.
